Who Wears Who?

A personal style coaching and content practice devoted to helping you own and wear your clothes intentionally, instead of being worn by them. Discover your own style guidance, and learn more about the practice of intentional style at WhoWearsWho.com

The Self-Made Wardrobe Project

Predecessor to Who Wears Who, a year-long challenge in 2014/2015 where I only wore clothes I made. That year would have been a lot easier if the clothes had magically made themselves. Learn more about The Self-Made Wardrobe Project and explore the archives here.

The Shawl Geometry Book Series

Enough shawl shapes to keep you knitting for a lifetime. A multi-year exploration of math, shape and space in knitting, where I documented traditional shawl shaping, and iterated on those traditions to create new recipes of shawl shaping. Ultimately this lead to 75+ shapes, and 400+ pages of common and uncommon shawl shaping instructions. This project was inspired by a dozen individual shawl designs, each encapsulating a love of geometric lace design. You can find The Shawl Geometry Series here.

A week of freezing temperatures and cozy sweaters – The Self-Made Wardrobe Week 23

The Self-Made Wardrobe is a project where I only wear garments I’ve made. It’s sort of a year long experiment in getting dressed without clothing labels. DAY 155 – JANUARY 2nd Deconstructed Black Sweater Black Tank Top Graphic Silk Circle Skirt Black Tights Brown Boots Various Rings I still can’t get over how cozy this deconstructed sewn together sweater is, especially while the wind is whipping around, and everyone is bundled it. This super cold weather is definitely making me want to sew another sweater. DAY 156 – JANUARY 3rd Blue & Green Archer Button Up Shirt Black Tank Top Black Scarf Black Maxi Skirt w/ a Slit Black Leggings Various Rings It’s cold enough outside that even days spent inside in front of the computer call for giant scarves and fuzzy leggings. DAY 157 – JANUARY 4th Hand Knit Sweater Dress Black Scarf Black Leggings Various Rings My absolute...

swatches & writing

Each Wednesday, I post little snippets about what’s happening, and what I’m working on. Knitting swatches, and a lot of writing this week. I didn’t start the sleeves of my handspun sweater. (though I finally washed the swatches.) I didn’t start the sleeves of my crazy colorful sweater either. I didn’t start the shawl I was meaning to start. Maybe next week. I did however, wash & block my not-so-straightforward basic purple sweater. And sew buttons onto my blue & green Archer button up shirt. And get a new shawl pattern to my tech editor. And finally find a name for said pattern (Rosmerta, in case you’re wondering.) And a whole smattering of other things I know I did, but can’t remember at the moment. Here’s to more knitting next week. And PS. if you’re in the NYC area and are thinking of coming to VK Live I’ll be at...

The Not-So-Straightforward Basic Purple Sweater

I have a new sweater! Just in time for more snow. This should have been the most straight forward of knits, but it wasn’t – at all. It started as a straight forward enough knit, a top down raglan pullover with long sleeves – just keep knitting, just keep knitting. But then I decided I didn’t like the neckline, so I cut the whole yoke off. Which led to a whole slew of complications, out of order knitting, and ends to weave in. (More about that here.) And on top of that, I spent the whole process wondering if I was going to run out of yarn. It was close, but between the two yarns, I had 7 grams leftover. Materials The yarn is two skeins of Madeline Tosh Lace held together (which they’ve discontinued! That makes me a super sad panda.) The colors are “flashdance” and “magenta,” which when...
