photos, stories, sharing, and swatching
Each Wednesday, I take stock of the projects I’m working on.
I’m pretty sure I spent more time sorting through photos for this post and trying to whittle my selection down under half a dozen – then I’ll spend writing it.
I’ve taken hundreds of photos in the past week and a half. Some of them are ending up here, some on Instagram – but mostly they’re organizing themselves into stories & collections.
But the problem is, they’re not organizing themselves into chronological stories – the kind of stories that can be told while they’re happening. The photos I’m finding myself taking are organizing themselves into pattern-like stories – patterns in street art, and plant forms, in architecture and color, and funny street signs.
These are the kind of stories that can only be told after the fact – when you can get perspective, and see all the dots, before connecting them.
All that said, I do want to start using little stolen bits of time (waiting for coffee, or for food to come) to start sorting and sharing – before I get to the end of this trip, and find myself faces with an overwhelming number of thoughts and photos.
(Oh! And I also started swatching for a new sweater – looking forward and starting to plan for two 18 hour long train rides, from Oakland to Portland and back).
leaving snowy New England for warm (if not always sunny) California
Each Wednesday, I take stock of the projects I’m working on.
I did manage to finish latch hooking the rug I was working on – but didn’t manage the binding, or to get photos before I left for my flight at ass o’clock in the morning.
It’s been sunny & rainy, and warm & chilly, all in equal measures – and even after days of them, I’m still fascinated by palm trees, and delighting over lemon trees.
I have more photos than I know what to do with – and not much desire to sit in front of a computer or phone editing them. Photos of architecture, sculptures, fountains, plants, birds, lakes, lights, and about a hundred from the Lacis Textile Museum, which I’ll sort through and edit at some point or other.
And at some point soon, I’ll pick up some yarn & needles and start a new knitting project, maybe a lightweight sweater project – something small and lightweight, but with a substantial amount of knitting.
finishing a rug and building 75 feet of bookshelves before getting on a plane Friday morning
Each Wednesday, I take stock of the projects I’m working on.
As my extended holiday stay/mid-adventuring pit stop at my parent’s house comes to an end, the 10 year in progress latch hook rug just needs a couple more hours of work, 75 ft of bookshelves have been built, half a dozen boxes of books unpacked, a million jewel cases (all containing gems, of course) discovered, and some serious puppy cuddling has gone on.
I’m hoping to unpack a couple more boxes, and finish that rug before hopping on a plane to California, at stupid-o’-clock Friday morning.
PS! I did an interview with Jill Wolcott, about knitting, designing, and who, what & where inspires me, you can read it over on her blog.
