I’m an artist & a designer.
Around here I write & think about making and style.
This is kind of “a handmade style blog” – if such a thing is a thing.
I talk about the technical (how to make things), and the philosophical (why to make things.)
I’m working on a project called The Self-Made Wardrobe – it’s an experiment in getting dressed without clothing labels (like literally…) For this project, I’m wearing exclusively handmade (by me) clothes for a year.
I’m an avid knitter, and before my self-made wardrobe project sparked a love (and a need) for knitting sweaters, I almost exclusively designed & knit complex, geometric, modern, lace shawls.
I’m NYC based, and my background is in costume design for theater & film – which I fell into because I was one of the only kids in my high school who knew how to sew a straight seam.
I think creating things is good for the soul, and that it doesn’t have to be as hard or mysterious as everyone pretends it is.
I think making things is one way to become a more conscious consumer.
And I think building things that are designed to last is really damn satisfying.
Thanks for stopping by my corner of the interwebs.
I hope you find something that inspires to create something.
